Freedom War is an intimate and ground-level feature documentary filmed over the first three years of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Shot across multiple trips to and through the country — including to the frontlines and worst affected areas of Ukraine — the film offers a deeply personal look at life in the country before, during, and after the invasion, as experienced by the filmmaker before and throughout the war.
Told through immersive footage and first-hand testimonies, Freedom War captures both the devastation and the determination of a nation fighting for its survival. While soldiers hold the line, volunteers and civilians work tirelessly to rebuild homes, lives, and communities — proving that the spirit of a free and independent Ukraine endures amid the darkest days of war.
